Nos anos 50 e 60 foi um sucesso com vendas para vários países e um bom serviço na RAF e mesmo na USAF (B-57). Mas sempre pensei nele como uma espécie de bombardeiro dos pobres, porque nenhum país remediado ou pobre (estou-me lembrar de alguns sul-americanos ou do Paquistão) arranjariam um bombardeiro melhor que o Canberra a um preço acessível. Capaz de levar armas internamente e nas asas e com um bom raio de alcance, o Canberra foi um óptimo bombardeiro para a época.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Teria sido uma boa opção para Portugal nos anos 50, pois teria dado jeito em África. Basta pensar no caso sul-africano e rodesiano, onde o Canberra mostrou o que valia nas estepes africanas. Para nós teria sido uma boa escolha e muito melhor que o Fiat para o tipo de operações que desenvolvemos em África. Impressionante a carga de armas que este avião podia transportar. Teve o seu tempo, mas há quem goste de o ver em miniatura como eu. Porque estamos a falar de um aparelho com 50 anos de vida, que num avião é uma eternidade. É claro que os B-52s de agora já não são nada do que eram em 1959, quando os primeiros foram entregues ao SAC americano. Mas é espantoso que um avião tão pesado e lento concebido para bombardeamento nuclear tenha sobrevivido a toda a guerra fria e ao que veio depois disso. Mas a imagem mais marcante que guardo deles é da “Guerra dos Onze Dias” sobre Hanói e Haifong, em que fizeram 700 incursões com um número de perdas considerável (15 B-52s abatidos). Mas conseguiram pressionar os norte-vietnamitas a negociar em Paris com Kissinger e a chegar a um acordo sobre a Guerra do Vietname. Foram voos impressionantes que chegavam a demorar 18 horas. Tudo já passou. A qualidade gráfica não era a melhor, mas o conteúdo era razoável e deu no fim uma boa colecção de fascículos de guerra. Vista à distância até não era nada má. Os P-3B tinham sido vendidos à Lockheed pela Austrália, quando este país comprou o P-3C. Desde 1977, que a Argentina tentava comprar aviões P-3, mas sem sucesso. Até que em 1982 esteve muito perto de comprar os aviões australianos à Lockheed. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O contrato estava para ser assinado no dia 4 de Abril, mas dois dias antes, os argentinos tomaram conta das Falkand e o negócio foi cancelado. Pouco escolha havia. Lembro-me bem das Pirata e das Gorila. Eram baratas e vendiam bem, mas os tipos lá da fábrica metiam uns cromos à mistura. Lembro-me dos comboios nas Pirata e dos aviões. E dos sinais de trânsito nas Gorila e outra vez os aviões.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;E lembro-me de fazermos colecção e da colecção andar à volta dos 809 aviões. Como é que um miúdo ia agora comer 809 pastilhas para ter uma colecção de aviões em cromos? Mas os aviões eram excelentes e quem comprava trocava e havia mesmo alguns que andavam sempre a olhar para o chão a ver se apanhavam algum cromo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Certo dia, um vizinho meu, lá fez a colecção (não dos 809 aviões, mas da 2ª Guerra Mundial) e lá mandou a colecção para os tipos da Gorila e recebeu em casa uma caderneta colorida com os aviões da Grande Guerra. E eu não fiz mais nada senão pedir-lhe emprestado a dita e fotocopiá-la. Se já existem helicópteros na Força Aérea e na Marinha, para quê mais helicópteros para o exército? Percebo que para muitos seja um pouco estranho que o exército também queira ter helicópteros, quando toda a vida usou os da força aérea sempre que precisava. Mas penso que essa situação não é compatível com um exército moderno, como deve ser o nosso, ou pelo menos não devia ser. E digo isto pelo seguinte: a aviação nos exércitos tornou-se um factor importante há várias décadas executando vários tipos de tarefas. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;O seu contributo acenta principalmente em três factores: 1- versatilidade; 2- capacidade de manobra; 3- capacidade de combate. Neste contexto, o helicóptero tornou-se numa arma importante não só ao serviço das forças aéreas e das marinhas, mas também integrado em unidades terrestres, ou seja, exército. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Foi esta percepção que levou à criação de grupos de aviação em vários exércitos da NATO e não só. E o fim da Guerra-fria só veio aumentar mais ainda o papel do helicóptero integrado em forças de combate terrestres, pois tornou-se óbvio que o emprego de forças terrestres no novo contexto implicava a existência de forças mais flexíveis e com capacidade de projecção de forças mais eficiente de forma a intervir em conflitos a grande distância.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Ora, neste contexto, o helicóptero era um meio fácil de projectar e com uma grande flexibilidade de acção no terreno. A sua velocidade e capacidade de manobra criaram mesmo um novo conceito no que diz respeito aos helicópteros de ataque, que é o conceito de ataque aeromecanizado. Neste conceito, uma força terrestre usa o helicóptero de ataque para projectar rapidamente no campo de batalha uma concentração de forças, capaz não só de combater, como também de ler em tempo real a situação do campo de batalha. É claro que isto não substitui a acção das ditas forças terrestres e o seu poder de combate no campo de batalha. Mas dá concerteza a essas mesmas forças uma maior capacidade de intervenção. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;É certo que ainda não possuímos helicópteros de ataque no nosso exército, (nem sei se algum dia os teremos?) mas penso que essa devia ser uma preocupação de futuro, ou seja, ter um grupo de aviação de ataque no exército por pequeno que fosse. Grande parte dos países da NATO possui grupos de aviação nos seus exércitos. Por isso, o nosso exército, constantemente integrado em alianças e estruturas de defesa, achou também que era importante a criação de um grupo desses que nos permitisse estar em pé de igualdade com forças pertencentes à NATO ou a outras alianças de que o país faça parte. Entendeu também que o helicóptero tornou-se uma força relevante em qualquer exército moderno com capacidade de projectar força nos novos cenários de crise e conflitos. Sendo assim, foi decidido criar o grupo de aviação ligeira do exército em 1998, estando prevista a implementação de dois esquadrões de helicópteros neste grupo, um de helicópteros mais leves (cujo o modelo aguarda decisão do governo) e outro de helicópteros médios e utilitários já escolhido e que deverá ser entregue ao exército nos próximos anos. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Depois deste processo terminado devemos passar então para um grupo de aviação de ataque que podia ter 6-8 aparelhos. Penso que devia ser uma prioridade do exército na próxima década. Seguir estes passos não é querer ser grande ou fazer figura de grande. É apenas acompanhar a tendência dos exércitos modernos e das novas doutrinas referentes ao emprego de forças terrestres. É, por isso, que eu acho que Portugal não pode ficar para trás, agarrado a velhos conceitos de operação. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Ter um grupo de aviação no exército a funcionar não só é importante agora, como também é importante num futuro, onde o exército deverá ter um conceito aeromecanizado. A existência de meios aéreos próprios dará ao exército uma capacidade operação independente, embora sempre possível de integrar com outros meios e ramos. Mas o helicóptero no exército tem de ser encarado como uma continuidade da componente terrestre e não como um meio estranho emprestado por outro ramo. E foi isso que sempre aconteceu no nosso exército no passado. O helicóptero era um meio estranho emprestado pela força aérea em situações pontuais.É claro que muitos vão dizer que isto não interessa para nada e que o exército é uma cambada de malandros que não faz nada na vida. Mas quem percebe um bocadinho do assunto sabe que isto não é assim. Mas é preciso perceber um bocadinho. E muita gente não percebe nada do assunto. E estão obviamente no seu direito de não perceber ou de não querer saber. Afinal são coisas pouco discutidas, combinadas no segredo dos gabinetes. Faltava mesmo uma obra de fundo sobre o Mirage F1. Estes dois livros do Fréderic Lert, são duas opções interessantes para quem quer ter duas obras simples e resumidas sobre este aparelho. Ou seja, não são livros aprofundados, mas sim livros que pretendem fazer uma apresentação sumária do avião com boas ilustrações e com os dados essenciais. É óbvio que para leituras mais profundas quem tiver interesse tem uma outra &lt;a href="http://www.avions-bateaux.com/en/catalogue-livre-catalogue_786.html"&gt;obra &lt;/a&gt;mais desenvolvida sobre este aparelho, também dividida em dois volumes. Esta sim, uma obra de referência que fazia falta há muito tempo. Só que é preciso levar também em linha de conta o preço deste tipo de literatura. É que as obras de referência não são baratas, enquanto que no caso dos dois volumes aqui ilustrados, conseguimos por um preço acessível ter uma obra que mostra o essencial sobre este avião. Agora que vejo esta com um Mig-29, reparo que eram iguais à versão brasileira da Nova Cultural, embora as brasileiras tivessem um arranjo gráfico melhor. Em suma, os brasileiros fizeram um bom trabalho ao traduzir uma obra desta dimensão. Não tenho grandes reparos a fazer. Para muitos foi a porta de entrada no mundo da aviação militar. Num artigo sobre o Fiat G.91 de Mário Canongia Lopes publicado em separata da Revista Mais Alto nº264 Março/Abril de 1990 é referido (pág. 7) que os oitos Fiat G.91 R/4 transferidos para a Guiné em Março de 1966 tinham números de série 5401-3, 5405-7 e 5417-8.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Num artigo mais antigo da autoria de António Mimoso publicado na revista Air Fan º 5 de Março de 1979 refere (pág.33) que os mesmos aviões eram o 5401, 5402, 5403, 5404, 5405, 5406, 5417 e 5418. Ou seja, António Mimoso não reporta o 5407 referido por Mário Canongia Lopes, nem este último autor refere o 5404 reportado por António Mimoso.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No mesmo artigo da Mais Alto (pág. 12) o 5404 surge numa fotografia em operação na Esquadra 502 “Jaguares” no AB5 em Nacala, Moçambique, em 1969. No entanto, no mesmo artigo (pág. 13) este avião não aparece nos aviões ao serviço da 502 em 1972. Calculo que nessa altura, o avião já não estivesse em Moçambique, mas não sei se esta minha suposição está certa?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Depois fica em aberto a questão de saber qual a origem do 5404 em Nacala em 1969? Foi aqui que começamos a perceber alguma coisa do assunto. Foi aqui que a aviação militar ganhou para nós clareza. A colecção chamava-se &lt;strong&gt;Aviões de Guerra&lt;/strong&gt; e tinha sido lançada no Brasil pela Nova Cultural em meados de 1986&lt;strong&gt;.&lt;/strong&gt; Uns meses depois chegou a Portugal. Eram 120 fascículos. Em cada fascículo tinha um dos aviões de combate mais importantes do mundo com desenhos grandes e detalhados nas páginas centrais. Depois trazia ainda texto, emblemas de esquadrões, números de série, tabelas de desempenho, diagramas de reconhecimento, vistas em corte e desenhos das cabines. Cada fascículo era uma descoberta. Com zonas de guerra, técnicas de combate aéreo e perfis operacionais. Aprendi muito, gastei também muito dinheiro, mas fiquei igual. O jato fabricado pela Embraer que havia acabado de ser construído e estava sendo translado para o seu cliente sofreu apenas alguns dados na winglet e no profundor e conseguiu pousar com segurança no Campo de Provas Brigadeiro Veloso da FAB no sul do Pará. Já a aeronave da Gol que havia sido recebida no dia 12 de setembro acabou caindo na mata, vitimando todas as 155 pessoas a bordo ganhando assim o infeliz título de maior acidente aéreo já ocorrido no Brasil. Dito isso, vamos a notícias um tanto melhores: a FAB recebeu no dia 04 de setembro na Base Aérea de Anápolis (BAAN) os dois primeiros Mirage 2000 (um monoplace e um biplace) dos 12 encomendados à França. Todas as aeronaves deverão ser entregues até 2008.
